All tenderloins, all the time.

The finest food known to man

The Hearthstone Restaurant, Metamora, Indiana

The Hearthstone restaurant is located on US 52 in Metamora, Indiana.  Metamora has long been one of our favorite stops in Indiana, and although we’ve driven past the Hearthstone numerous times, we’ve never stopped in for a meal.

This past weekend found us in Metamora playing music for a quilt  festival, and after several hours of playing, we were hungry for a good meal.  Our good friend Brian Wallen was with us, and he talked about how good the chicken and ribs were at the Hearthstone, so we decided to give it a shot.

The restaurant is nicely decorated, and looked vaguely familiar, and upon reading the menu, I found out why…scenes from Rain Main…with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise…were filmed there.  That’s a pretty cool piece of history right there!

The Hearthstone offers a buffet with fried chicken, ribs, and more, and they also offer a complete menu to order from.  The menu is well stocked with traditional Midwestern comfort foods, such as Meatloaf, Fried Chicken, and lots and lots of gravy.  Oh, where would we be without our beloved gravy?

On the sandwich menu they proudly proclaim  a “Fresh, hand cut tenderloin, served your choice of grilled or breaded and deep fried”.  Oh, I had a feeling I had hit the goldmine here!

Until the waitress brought our sandwiches out.  Instead of a “fresh, hand cut tenderloin”…we both got a pre-processed pork fritter.  And a bad one at that.

Before I rate the sandwich, a quick note to all you restaurant owners  (and I know there are more than a few of you) who read my blog on a regular basis.  Sell what you advertise, advertise what you sell.  Make no exceptions.  If you do otherwise, it creates nothing but ill will from your customers.  Serve a good, honest meal, and you’ll have repeat customers.  Attempt to fool people and folks will never come back.

That little rant over….I’m giving the Hearthstone’s breaded tenderloin a 0 out of 5 bites.  Yes….it was technically edible.  But it wasn’t what was advertised on the menu.  Unforgiveable.

That said, Brian had chicken and ribs and it looked really outstanding.  I liked the atmosphere and the prices were reasonable.  I’ll give it one more try…but I won’t get the tenderloin.

Before I go, I want to give a shout to to a young man…Hello, Ling!!!  I understand Ling has been a faithful reader…thank you so much for your support!!

The Hearthstone Restaurant is located at 18149 US Highway 52 in Metamora, Indiana.  I was unable to find a website for them.

  1. If you want a delicious, fresh, breaded tenderloin sandwich…that you will crave in the future…you can come to my home, or go to Storie’s Restaurant in Greensburg, IN.

  2. The best tenderloin sandwich going is at a local store in Waldron Indiana called Hurley’s Market. It is hand cut and fresh. They have a tenderloin special on Wednesdays.

  3. Well, Rick, I had no idea you had MORE blogs! Love this! BTW, some of my ancestors came from Ladoga, and Crawfordsville. I was there a few years back doing some research. Keep playin’ and ridin’!
